Lately, I’ve been asked a question that I feel deserves a full, transparent answer:
“Why are there fees to enter your pageant?”
Let’s talk about it.
At EPIC, we’re more than just a pageant—we’re a registered and trademarked business, operating with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. We do not have charitable status, and we do not receive government funding. Everything we offer—from the glimmering crowns to the luxurious venues—is paid for, not donated. SOMETIMES, we get a discount.
So when someone asks, “Why isn’t it free?”—this is why.
Running a Pageant is Running a Business
Many people don’t realize what truly goes into organizing a quality pageant. Like any legitimate business, we:
- Pay taxes
- Rent elegant venues
- Purchase custom crowns, sashes, trophies, and awards
- Offer high-value gift packages
- Provide catering and hospitality for delegates and guests
- Arrange and pay for an exclusive off-site trip for all delegates
- Cover the cost of marketing, staffing, printing, licensing, and much more
There are no shortcuts here. We don’t recycle crowns or rely on hand-me-downs. When you enter Emissary Pageants International Congress, you’re stepping into an event that’s polished, professional, and purpose-driven.
There Is No Such Thing as a “Free” Pageant
Truthfully, I’m still surprised when people expect a pageant to be free.
Let’s be real: pageants across the U.S. all charge fees. It’s industry standard. The era of widespread corporate sponsorships is long gone. Today, most directors—myself included—barely break even. Some of us even use our personal income or full-time jobs to help cover the gap.
So no, the entry fee you’re paying doesn’t fund anyone’s lavish lifestyle. It helps cover the basics so we can continue to create an empowering platform for our contestants.
